People always travel to the ‘top destinations’ so they can catch a glimpse of all the ‘sights’ that guide books and other folks say you absolutely have to see there. While this is quite enjoyable, and a must in certain areas, I love wandering off the beaten path to find things that catch my interest. For one, you will get away from the crowds to enjoy some quiet time exploring and not fighting through people. Furthermore, you will most likely come across some unique experiences.
Like today, I went for a run outside my hotel in what was some kind of old warehouse area. Many would have not thought to go this way, but I figured why not? It’s close to where I’m staying, the sun is shining, and I want to get some exercise. While on my run I came across a nice paved trail that went through the area. What better a place to go than a nicely paved path!?
Not the most glamourous of trails, and definitely not one that people would go out of their way to see, eh? Went with my gut to go running here and I ended up really enjoying what I came across. There were some really sweet condos (maybe apartments??) that were part of some urban redevelopment project where I would totally live at. There was a lot of wall art / graffiti throughout the path. All in all just some hidden gems that you can find wherever you are!
Here are just a few the ‘highlights’ that struck my interest:
A cool graffiti mural of Dallas
An old, rusting sign from who knows when
A sick 1967 Ford Mustang GTA
The point I’m trying to get at? Try to get into the present moment and enjoy where you are right now. Don’t get caught up thinking about where you have to be next or what chores you need to do later. Once you are able to connect with the present you will be able to find the beauty in the simplest of places.
