Asheville is known as being a top destination for craft beer, and for good reason – they have a lot of great breweries! Couple that with some gorgeous views along the Blue Ridge Highway and you have a winning combination. Here is a list of some breweries that I have personally been to in Maine and have included my opinion about each.

  1. Archetype Brewing Company:

    • About the Space:
      • Chill taproom with a family-friendly vibe. They have plenty of seating inside and a patio outdoors for when the weather is nice. They don’t serve food but allow you to bring in some from outside.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have more Belgian style offerings, so keep that in mind when you come here. Most of the beers are enjoyable. I liked the Shoulder Devil IPA and the Belgian Red Ale.
  2. Burial Beer Company:

    • About the Space:
      • Fun, chill space in this cozy taproom. The place can get quite packed, but they have a couple different rooms to hang out in, as well as a lot of seating outdoors. The staff here is great!
    • About the Beer:
      • Some of the best beer in the Asheville area. They have a wide range of styles, so getting a flight is recommended. Try The Keeper’s Veil Honey Saison and the Gang of Blades Imperial IPA.
  3. Catawaba Brewing Company:

    • About the Space:
      • Nice place to hang out and watch the game or chill with friends. Quite spacious with a great ambiance overall.
    • About the Beer:
      • The have a large selection of beers, so there will be something for everyone. Overall I found the beer to be good quality. The Mother Trucker Pale was a decent option.
  4. The Funkatorium:

    • About the Space:
      • Really funky, unique space, hence the name! Very cozy atmosphere, with seating inside and out. They also serve some fantastic food.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have all sour beers brewed by Wicked Weed, so make sure you like that type of beer before stopping in since they can be quite much for some. Everything that I tried was excellent. I really enjoyed the Genesis and Brettaberry.
  5. Green Man Brewery:

    • About the Space:
      • Newer taproom with a very modern, yet chill atmosphere. They have two bars, each with a little different vibe. They also have a selection of games to play.
    • About the Beer:
      • Their beer was decent, and had all of the standard styles you would expect. Try the Trickster IPA or the Porter.
  6. New Belgium Brewing Company:

    • About the Space:
      • Large new taproom that was quite fancy. They have plenty of seating inside and out, but parking can be an issue. There are daily tours available, as well as a food truck, so you can spend quite some time here.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have so many styles to choose from, ranging from their flagship beers to sour beers to experimental offerings. Try the Voodoo Ranger Juicy Haze IPA or the Transatlantique Kriek (Lips of Faith) Lambic.
  7. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company:

    • About the Space:
      • This place was massive and very impressive. You can do a self guide walking tour of the production and bottle facility. They also offer guided tours with tastings. They have a restaurant area, a taproom area, and plenty of outdoor seating with a huge stage. Definitely make a trip to visit them – it’s worth it!
    • About the Beer:
      • They have all of their flagship beers, as well as some newer beers and those that aren’t distributed as much. Try their Riverator Doppelbock or the Celebration Ale.
  8. Twin Leaf Brewery:

    • About the Space:
      • Smaller, homey feeling taproom. They have a large bar and communal style seating. They offer some snacks to much on as well. Great place to chill and play some games.
    • About the Beer:
      • The beer here seems average in comparison to some of the other breweries in the area. The Flying Milligan Imperial IPA was a decent option.
  9. Wedge Brewing Company:

    • About the Space:
      • Very unique space in the River Arts District. The taproom is small, but the outside seating areas are spacious and decorated using recycled goods. There is room to play corn hole or just chill with friends. They often have a food truck outside.
    • About the Beer:
      • They don’t have too many beers on tap, but all of the ones that I tried were excellent. Get the Vadim Bora Russian Imperial Stout or the IPA with 250 Lbs of Mango Puree.
