Spain

Spain is a country that loves their wine, so craft beer is hard to find in certain areas. The place with the best options is Barcelona, so head here if you want some brews!

  3. Barcelona Beer Company:
    • About the Space:
      • This is a restaurant and taproom with some good food options to wash down that beer. Really cool, cozy feel to the place.
    • About the Beer:
      • They had quite a wide range of styles to pick from and have various flight options. All of the beer was quite tasty. My favorites were the Sr. Lobo Milk Stout and MISS HOPS IPA.
  4. Beer’Linale:
    • About the Space:
      • Craft beer bar in the Gothic Quarter. Great menu selection. Great place, but overall a little pricey due to it’s location. Worth a visit either way!

      • Large selection of local and international beers on tap. The screens show what’s available, along with a description. Ask the bartender if you need help making a decision.
  5. BlackLab Brewhouse & Kitchen:
    • About the Space:
      • This had the feel of a German Beer Hall, which is what they were going for. Plenty of seating inside and out, plus they offer some good German food. Pricey, but worth a spot when you’re out seeing the sights.
    • About the Beer:
      • All of their beer was very good and worthy of a try. I enjoyed their Oktober Lager  Marzen and the El Cunado Rye IPA.
  6. CatBarCAT:
    • About the Space:
      • Small craft beer bar known for their vegan burgers… and oh my are they delicious! They occasionally have some live music. Really fun place to check out if you’re in the area.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have 8 taps of all local craft beers. The list changes often, so ask your server for a recommendation!
  7. La Cervesera del Poblenou:
    • About the Space:
      • Small craft brewery that is only open on Fridays. They offer brewery tours and have a very basic bar. They also have local craft beer in bottles for takeaway. Overall this is a nice place to visit if you are in the Poblenou area.
    • About the Beer:
      • They only have a couple beers on tap at a time, so this will always change. They offer all of their other beers in bottles. Overall their beer was fairly tasty. They had on the Xesca Blonde Ale and the Julia Scottish Ale, both of which were above average.
  8. CocoVail Beer Hall:
    • About the Space:
      • This place made me feel like I was back in the USA. Why? Because they had chicken wings and were playing 90’s rock music. Can’t get much more American than that. If you need a break from Spanish culture, come here.
    • About the Beer:
      • Rotating list of local and international beers. They have descriptions of each to help you choose. The list changes often, so ask your server for a recommendation!
  9. Craft Barcelona:

  10. The Growler Barcelona:
    • About the Space:
      • A craft beer bar that allows you to fill up growlers. Nothing fancy, pretty straight forward beer bar. No food is offered.
    • About the Beer:
      • Rotating list of local craft beers and bottles. The list changes often, so ask your server for a recommendation!
  11. Moritz:
    • About the Space:
      • They really spared no expense in making this place – their location is gorgeous. Worthy of stopping by just to see the place, but not the beer.
    • About the Beer:
      • Most of their beer is what you expect from a macro brewery – uninspired. Their Moritz Lager is just so so.
  12. Naparbcn:
    • About the Space:
      • Fairly large brewpub with a decent food menu (although expensive). Overall the atmosphere was great. Excellent brewery to visit when in Barcelona.
    • About the Beer:
      • Some of the best beer I have ever tried in all of Europe. Seriously. Go here, and you won’t be disappointed! They have a wide selection of varying styles, so get a flight. The Catuai Coffee Oatmeal Stout was fantastic, as well as the Ak’Kin Double IPA.

Malaga

  1. Central Beers Craft Beer:

    • About the Beer:
      • Good mixture of local and international craft beers on tap.
  2. Cervecería “Arte & Sana Craft Beer Café”:
    • About the Space:

      • They have about 10 rotating taps at reasonable prices. They have even more to choose from in bottles. You can’t go wrong here!
  3. Cervezas Especiales Hop Scotch:

  4. La Fábrica – Cervecería artesanal Cruzcampo:
    • About the Space:
      • Really cool atmosphere that makes you feel like you are hanging out in the middle of a brewery. They have one side with tables for dining, and the other side with the bar for hanging out. They also have some food, which I did not try. Now read on about their beer and why you don’t want to drink here.
    • About the Beer:
      • This is your typical macro-brewery trying to be ‘hip’ by offering ‘artisan’ beers. They have a decent selection of beers, but all of them were uninspired and not very good. I don’t think I can even recommend one here!
  5. La Madriguera Craft Beer:
    • About the Space:
      • Small craft beer bar with fun little seating nooks. This place can get crowed at night. They have awesome food here – This is where I had the best salmon wrap of my life!
    • About the Beer:
      • They have several taps of local and foreign beer. Be careful though, as they also serve macro brewery beers, so do your research!
  6. Cervecería Mapamundi 2011:
    • About the Space:
      • This place very much felt like a hole in the wall, and overall not very clean. There were glasses and dirty dishes strewn across the bar. Not the best of feeling when the bartender grabs a random glass from the bar and you are left wondering if it was clean or not. At least you’re drinking alcohol?
    • About the Beer:
      • They have a decent selection of beers on tap, plus more in bottles. Most of them were Belgian style. Ask the bartender for suggestions.

      • They have a few house made beers along with other local craft beers on tap. They also have an extensive bottle list to choose from. I recommend getting a flight to try everything on tap!
